Bruin Youth Basketball League

As a coach in the BYBL, I understand that I play a critical role in shaping the experience of young athletes. I commit to upholding the following principles and responsibilities:

✅ I have the knowledge and preparation necessary to lead my team in a positive and productive manner.
✅ I will respect the spirit and intent of the rules, following them at all times.
✅ I am responsible not only for my own behavior, but also for the conduct of my assistant coaches, players, and team spectators.
✅ I will always prioritize the health, safety, well-being, and personal development of my athletes over the team’s win-loss record.
✅ I recognize that I am a role model, and my actions must reflect my words.
✅ I will provide a physically and emotionally safe environment for both practices and competition.
✅ I will demonstrate and promote honesty, integrity, fair play, and good sportsmanship, regardless of the outcome of the game.
✅ I will maintain a professional and respectful demeanor in all relationships—with athletes, officials, colleagues, administrators, parents, and the public.
✅ I will maintain confidentiality when appropriate and avoid any situations that may present conflicts of interest or exploit athletes.
✅ I will encourage academic success and support the overall development of each athlete.
✅ I am committed to the physical and emotional well-being of all players.
✅ I will discourage the use of performance-enhancing substances and dietary supplements.
✅ I will prohibit the use of illegal or recreational drugs in any capacity.
✅ I will follow safe, developmentally appropriate training and conditioning practices.
✅ I will use sound injury prevention and risk management strategies.
✅ I understand the growth and developmental stages of my athletes and will coach accordingly.
✅ I will always place the needs and interests of my players above my own.
✅ I will promote competition that is healthy, fun, and focused on learning.

I understand that I represent not only my team but also the Bruin Youth Basketball League (BYBL). I agree to conduct myself according to the standards presented in the BYBL Athletic Code of Conduct. I understand that players, parents, other coaches, and BYBL leadership will hold me accountable for the conduct of myself, my players, assistants, and associated spectators.

I acknowledge that failure to adhere to the BYBL Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, up to and including removal from coaching responsibilities within the league.
